Turkmenistan: Broadway and Beyond

Global Music Collective is excited to announce that we will be running a HUGE program in Turkmenistan to share music from Broadway, pop, hip hop, and beyond! We are proud recipients of a grant from the U.S. Embassy in Ashgabat to fund the program that will bring us all over the country for five concerts across Ashgabat, Turkmenbashy, Balkanabat, and Dashoguz.

We are proud to team up with the Turkmen State Symphony conducted by the amazing Rasul Klychev. Additionally, we will team up with Youth Choirs from the Specialized School of the Arts of the Balkan Velayat and the Specialized School of the Arts named after M. Garlyyev in Dashoguz.

The program runs January 13-24, 2025 and will incorporate some amazing local artists who play dutar and perform Kushtdepdi, part of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Our program features American artists Kate Bass, Aaron Young, and Richie “Robot” Steighner to represent Broadway, opera, hip hop, pop, and beatbox. The wide variety of skills will allow us to perform workshops to show how theatre and music are evolving to include many styles.

UPDATE:

The program was incredible! We collaborated with local stars Dovran Shammyyev, Munisa Hudaybergenova, Sohbet Annamyradov, Bahar Durdyyeva, and Elchin Gulamov. We even wrote brand new songs (with music videos on the way) with Dovran based on the poetry of Magtymguly and recorded them with Bayram Nazarov. The Wind and Father/Son (I’ll Remember You) are coming soon! Thank you especially to the talented sign language interpreter Gulnur Bashiyeva as well as
