On a recent Arts Envoy trip to Equatorial Guinea (our thanks to the U. S. Embassy Malabo and American Voices for making this program happen), Richard’s group Freedom’s Boombox collaborated with local artists to write an inspiring song capturing local styles and customs and a drive to pursue that which may be difficult or far-off.
The Arts Envoy tour to Equatorial Guinea was thanks to the U.S. Embassy Malabo and the fantastic team there. It is one of the only Spanish speaking countries in Africa, so this song is a blend of Spanish and English. After working with the artists, Richie wrote the chorus and music in an afternoon to capture their spirit of perseverance in a difficult industry–I’m on my way.
